This book deals with the implementation and optimization of flat top
passband wavelength division multiplexers. Several fundamental effects like the
refractive index change in waveguide bends and the influence of focal point
correction schemes for the free space coupler have been comprehensively investigated
and are described in detail. With these findings, flat top passband wavelength
division multiplexers have been realized. Different options for obtaining flat
top passband wavelength response have been implemented and are compared. A
theory is introduced which describes and explains the connection between
wavelength response peak shape and pulse broadening. The theory has been
confirmed in high speed data transmission experiments with the realized
multiplexers.
